Catedral de Caracas

Catedral de Caracas (Avenida Sur, Caracas) – this is the seat of the Roman Catholic Metropolitan archdiocese of Caracas, which faces the Plaza Bolívar. It is also located a short walk from Simón Bolívar’s birthplace. Not far away is the burial site of Bolívar’s wife and parents. Originally built in 1666, it was damaged due to earthquakes in 1766 and 1812 (going through stages of restoration since then). Simón Bolívar himself was once buried here, until his remains were transferred to the Panteón Nacional in 1876.
