Miss Venezuela Pageant
Miss Venezuela Pageant (Poliedro, La Rinconada, Calle Poliedro, Caracas) – it is no accident that Miss Venezuela has won perhaps the most “Miss Universe” titles over the years (including 2013). Venezuela is distinct for having a virtual industry of grooming schools, plastic surgeons and beauty salons that prepare young women for the thousands of pageants that take place each year around the country in schools, army barracks and even prisons.
Every October, the 15,000-seat indoor Caracas arena, the Poliedro, hosts this event, watched by Venezuelans from all walks of life and political persuasions (and organized by the Venezuelan television network, Venevisión). Those visiting Caracas during this pageant would be surprised to hear that tickets are actually available to see this event in person (from Bs. 500 or US$80). This, as opposed to similar pageants in other countries (like USA), which are usually exclusive “invitation only” events.
